Story Behind the Shirt

The beginnings of our Credit Union started with a King Edward cigar box containing the $35 of our seven Charter Members. The contributions from these seven individuals, combined with a whole lot of passion, led to the chartering of TRW (Tire and Rubber Workers) Federal Credit Union on September 21, 1951. In 1973 it was renamed to BF Goodrich Employees Federal Credit Union reflecting our deep commitment to the hardworking men and women of the BF Goodrich Tire Plant. For decades, that identity shaped who we were.

Our first move outside of Tuscaloosa County came in 1997 with expansion into Carrollton. In 2001, we were granted community credit union status, opening our membership eligibility and setting the stage for broader growth. As our commitment to serving communities across Alabama deepened, our name evolved to reflect that purpose. In 2009, following a merger with Alabama Mental Health Credit Union, we became Alabama ONE Credit Union. Our story continued with the mergers of Alabama Rural Electric Credit Union (ARECU), Brewton Mill Federal Credit Union, and McIntosh Chemical Federal Credit Union as well as the acquisitions of First Bank of Linden and First Bank of Wadley and, the continued statewide expansion.

Each branch is more than a location; it’s a link to local identity. In the design, you’ll discover illustrated symbols representing the places, people, and progress that have defined Alabama ONE since 1951. These aren’t just images; they’re part of our everyday life. They remind us that finance serves families, work, and play, and affirm that Alabama ONE belongs to the community because we grew from it. Together, they tell the story of a credit union built on trust, service, and connection.
